Meet the Board

ROSE NUNES,
TPES Foundation President 2012-2013

Hello TPES families! What a privilege it is to be a part of such a phenomenal elementary school. Torrey Pines is not just an excellent academic elementary school, but it is also a community where families come together to grow and learn.

I am very excited to serve on the 2012-2013 TPES foundation board as Foundation President. This is our fourth year at Torrey Pines Elementary School. My husband, John, and I have a son, Matthew who is in third grade and a daughter, Nicole, in the second grade.

My kids have experienced great opportunities both academically, and socially at Torrey Pines. As with all great things, making it happen at TPES takes dedication, collaboration and continuous effort! The unique programming at TPES begins with the dedication of Mr. Solo and his staff.  They provide our students with a very effective education program. As with any public elementary school, TPES has funding shortages, drawn-out school board determinations and state testing mandates, but TPES truly rises above these stumbling blocks to deliver an amazing education experience!

I believe parents should be involved in, and have a voice in the direction of their children’s education. I am committed to ensuring the Foundation continues to work collaboratively with Mr. Solo to evaluate how the Foundation can best support the unique programming and the educational experience at TPES. I invite you to join me and the foundation board in this effort.

My goal for this year is to support Mr. Solo in his efforts to bridge the gap between the district funded programming and the programming Mr. Solo and we as parents have come to consider necessary in providing the best learning and growing opportunities for our kids!

We are looking forward to another amazing year! I am typically at school for drop off and pick up or please feel free to contact me at rnunes1@san.rr.com with any questions or suggestions.

AMY HUNTER,
VP Fundraising

Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year at Torrey Pines Elementary School.  I am excited to serve a second year as VP of Fundraising. My goal is to assist the foundation and our community in raising the funds required to give our children the most enriched learning opportunity.

I am the proud parent of a third grader and will have an upcoming kindergartener next year.  I am honored to be a part of this amazing community of students, staff/faculty and devoted parents.  I am dedicated to making sure our school continues to provide all the countless extras we love about TPES.  Through our fundraising efforts, the foundation provides funding for art, music, science, library, physical education, math enrichment, class size reduction, curriculum support, grade level enhancements, and much more. Given the current and future financial uncertainty of our public educational system in California, it is especially important that we continue to strive for excellence and continue providing these additional educational opportunities for all our students.

Every family, student, faculty and staff member greatly benefits from our fundraising efforts.  There are many opportunities to participate throughout the school year.  Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with our fundraising events on the website and please sign up to volunteer at one of our events. In addition to the many exciting fundraising events that take place throughout the year, we will also kick-off our Annual Fund Campaign in October.  This is one of the most important fundraising campaigns of the school year.  Its primary intention is to generate a significant percentage of our yearly fundraising goal through direct monetary contributions from our TPES families and community.  Please watch for our exciting launch in October!

I encourage you to get involved in this unique and wonderful community.  Please contact me with questions or suggestions at amscott78@yahoo.com.

MARYANA BHAK,
Communications Chair

Hello! My name is Maryana Bhak.  Jong and I are so happy that Subio (3rd grade) and Jae Su (1st grade) are part of Torrey Pines. We knew it was a strong community with an amazing team of educators, but have never ceased to be impressed and moved by the involvement of parents, grandparents, and others in making this public school experience an excellent one for our children.

I am looking forward to being the Communications Chair for the TPES Foundation this year. To keep us informed about all the aspects of TPES, from classroom news and homework to school events and opportunities, online communications are critical.  The TPES website is packed with information such as the school calendar and a directory with all families’ and teachers’ contact info.  Watch for weekly e-TWIG emails for ongoing news and updates and occasional “Branching Out” newsletters for Principal and President messages, news, pictures, and kudos.  And always check the website for volunteering needs and other ways to help.  To highlight news and needs, eBlasts will also show up in your email inbox.  Please read them!  And please let me know if you have any feedback to make communications more efficient and timely. My e-mail address is maryanabhak@gmail.com.

REGINA BUCKLEY,
TPES Family Events

Hello parents, my name is Regina Buckley. My daughter, Maya, is a third grader at TPES. We really appreciate the uniqueness of our school and how fortunate we are to be a part of it.  I am very excited to be in charge of the TPES Family Events this year.  This involves planning fun, stress free, events for you and your family to enjoy while meeting other Torrey Pines families. These will include events at the school, such as movie night and holiday bingo night.  Also, there will be some restaurant fund raiser evenings where you can come and eat with your Torrey Pines friends and a percentage of the proceeds are given back to the school.

Please keep an eye out for information in your weekly e-TWIG and flyers that come home regarding these events. I will also be reaching out for volunteers to help with some events.  Please come along, have fun, and help make our great community even better. It’s going to be a great year.
